Eternal Sailor Moon Plush 2014 by sakkysa Eternal Sailor Moon Plush 2014 by sakkysa
For SailorMoonChan, who has been fantastically patient with me.

My third giant Eternal Sailor Moon plush! This pattern is a little different and actually a bit larger. She's about 19-20" tall (and just barely fits into my shelf for her photoshoot xD).

Deersude and felt with hand drawn, iron on transfer face.

I'm sure happy with her and I will miss her when she goes to her new home. :'D

Plush adoptions are closed until further notice but please check out this journal for all the information! :thanks:

Most craft stores have it but you can also use a matte acrylic spray on regular felt for the same effect :D

No, that is a smaller pattern, comes out around 7-8"

I haven't posted any of my larger patterns but you could probably adjust that one to be bigger. The style is a big different though. ^__^

Are you planing to put pattern for big plushies? A would really appreciate head pattern. I have problems with that part of my plushie and yours is so nice and round.

Anyway, your eternal sailor moon plushie is beautiful and I hope that someday I could sew something like this.

Thank you! I don't have plans to post the large patterns at this time.

You totally can!! the more you make the better you get, for sure. It's always exciting to make new things and see improvement over time :3

You are extremely talented!! Awesome work!

If you don't mind my asking, how do you pay royalty's, and what-not?(assuming you sell these)

Thanks! I do a lot of fanart and participate in artist alley at many anime conventions where I sell my work, some fanart, some not. It seems in general that this kind of sale of fanart is tolerated by most IP holders. I'm sure if they wanted to, they could ask fanartists to stop - they have full legal grounds to do so. However, since they seem to not be interested in stopping fans from making and/or selling fanart, there's a de facto leeway for this sort of work.  It's a bit odd but it just seems to be the norm.

I know a few artists who will not sell fanart because they don't feel like it jives with their morals. I sometimes struggle with it being "right" or not, but the fact that it's allowed on such a massive scale and the since I am doing all the design and handiwork myself (as opposed to reproducing licensed merch, which would be more akin to bootlegging), I feel alright with it.

She's so cute!! I love this longer-legged pattern, that works really well with the Sailor Moon style.

Out of curiosity, do you find using felt actually works well? I've made a couple of plushies, mostly with craft velour and other assorted fabrics, but one of them I used felt for the hair, and it's sort of a mess nowadays. It got all pill-y and a lot of fuzz sticks to it. But felt also comes in such a wide assortment of colors and it's so easy to work with that it seems like a really good choice. But does it hold up over time for you?

Yes, I know what you mean. I found a really nice felt I like called EcoFelt. It's very sturdy and doesn't seem to have the trouble I've had with other felts (too stretchy, comes apart too easily, dull colors, etc.). It's got great, bright color and it's pretty thick, too. I've considered trying other materials but felt is just so easy being double face and not fraying. I'm having a hard time finding something so convenient! xD

I have seen a few of my plush years after they have gone out to commissioners. I would say the folks that care for them and treat them as display pieces have kept the condition very well. I have a few commissioners who have, let's say, "over loved" their plush. The felt does pill and collect dust and start to look pretty dingy. However, I do state on my commissions page they are meant to be for display only, so at that point there's not much more I can do.  I take great care while working with them to keep them as clean and neat as I can. I haven't had anyone come back to me to complain about it, so I can only assume that people have been satisfied.

I have a friend on here who never does any hand stitching on her plushies as she believes it looks "unprofessional".

I'm showing her this bad boy.

^___^; To be honest, up until about a year ago, I was afraid to use my machine. It's a really old model and they sort of terrify me. I've gotten to the point where I use it now for some simple things like the giant dango I sell at cons, but for all my custom plush I still hand sew because I like the control it gives me with the small details :3
